We were intrigued when we learned of a Halal makeup range that launched in the UK last week called Samina Pure Makeup. Halal in this instance means makeup that's free of animal and alcohol content and that wasn't tested on animals. The founder of the brand, Samina Akhter, created it after finding a void in the market for Muslim women who wanted to look good but not use products with ingredients not endorsed by their religion. It's not sold in the U.S. yet, but we wonder if it will make its way here. Until then, we'll stay tuned, keeping in mind that there are Muslim skeptics in Great Britain who think the use of the word "halal" is a marketing gimmick.

Summer Blockbuster Fragrances

Eat, Pray, Love made me want to eat the food (OK, I only made it through the Italy section) more than smell the scenery. But hearing about Fresh introducing three new fragrances tied to the movie Eat, Pray, Love got me thinking. ("Eat" is sweet, for Italy; "Pray" is spicy, for India; "Love" is floral, for Bali). I love that the bottles even use the same fonts—pasta, wooden prayer beads—as the book cover. What movies or books do you think would inspire great perfumes? My picks would be something beachy and kind of wild for The Black Stallion or a scent that's sunflower-based for Under the Tuscan Sun.

What if You Could Live Forever?

In a new documentary, To Age or Not to Age, which opens today in New York, filmmaker Robert Kane Pappas explores whether science might be able to extend human life span...potentially indefinitely. In the last few decades, prominent scientists have discovered genes that regulate the aging process and are working on drugs that might mimic or amplify the positive effects of these genes.

Before that, researchers (and the rest of us) just assumed that aging was pretty much inevitable. But cellular biologists have discovered that there are certain genes that can make animals—and possibly humans—resistant to the major diseases that come as you get older: Cancer, heart disease, diabetes and neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's. Pappas raises the tantalizing possibility that medical science might be able to wipe them all out with a single drug. Whoa.

Of course, the question remains: Do you even want to live forever? One of Pappas's interview subjects laughingly asks, "Can you imagine how you'd look if you were 1,000 years old?"

3 Cute Ways To Style Wet Hair

When Lady Gaga performed on the Today show in a cloud of rain, it got us thinking: hair can be hard to style in heat and humidity, but what about when it's downright drenched from the ocean or random thunderstorms? We looked for the simplest and most stylish ways to style wet hair.

A low bun: Possibly the easiest style that can get you beachy waves when hair dries (spritzing hair with a product like Bumble & Bumble Surf Spray helps). Rake hair back with fingertips to the nape of neck into a makeshift ponytail. Twist hair until it starts coiling around itself, wind into a bun, and secure with bobby pins.

A side braid: Part your hair on the side, then sweep the hair from below your ears to one side of your head. Starting at the nape of the neck, braid the hair loosely, leaving an inch of two at the end free. Secure with a clear elastic or, for something a bit more fun, a colored ribbon. (We loved this look at Alexander Wang and when Diane Kruger wore it.)

The no-style style: So simple you've probably skipped over it. With a wide-tooth comb, brush through hair. Part it either in the center or to the side, and tuck neatly behind your ears. To make it look more polished, try a silk headband or use a scarf as a headband.

5 Beauty Ideas to Try This Weekend

With the weekend mere hours away, we've rounded up a few summery beauty tricks to try out, whether you're heading to the beach, the park, or just hanging out at home:

Gilded smoky eyes. Use a cream shadow instead of powder; they cake less in the hot weather. Use your finger to blend the shadow on your eyes so you can get a wash of color then add dark brown liner at the outer edges and smudge. We like Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Cream Shadow in Burnished and Tarina Tarantino Eye Dream Hyperliner in Puppeteer.

Orange lipgloss. If you haven't noticed, orange is kind of having a big moment. Tackle the trend this weekend by applying a lipgloss in the hot color--it's lighter than lipstick, which is better for the heat, and will give your lips a juicy look. We like Revlon Lipgloss in Firecracker for its non-sticky formula.

Fuchsia fingernails. Hot pink is a bright, whimsical color that's just what you need to add a little pep to your favorite bikini. We love Chanel Riviera because it isn't too bright or too Barbie, or Sally Hansen Complete Manicure in Back to the Fuchsia, a cheaper (and more available) option.

A beach-inspired fragrance. We're cautious about spritzing on one of these for work since it might inspire some serious mental vacations, but a beachy fragrance is a perfect sexy, summer weekend scent that will stand up to the heat. Try Acqua di Parma Mandorlo di Sicilia, a subtle, fruity scent inspired by the landscape of Siciliy.

A colorful headscarf. A scarf is a stylish way to shield your hair from the sun or dress-up post-pool hair. Select one that's narrow and long enough to tie around your head and still have the ends hang down. You can leave the ends loose or take the following tip inspired by the hair-plus-scarf-braid from the Spring/Summer Hermes campaign: Pull your hair into a ponytail and tie the scarf into a tight knot around the base (for this, the scarf needs to be long enough so the two ends are as long as your hair). Divide the hair into three sections, with the scarf in two of them; then braid. At the bottom, tie the scarf into a double knot, and you're done.

As a bride-to-be, I'm constantly dealing with friends, co-workers, acquaintances, and even grocery checkout clerks assuming I'm a self-centered, wedding-focused, control-freak diva. One look at the ring finger is all it takes for someone to roll their eyes and say, "Ugh, you're not, like, a crazy Bridezilla, are you?" (No, thank you, I'm not.) When did "Bridezilla" become the default personality of all engaged women on the planet? But just as I start wanting to unite all fiancées of the world in a movement to defend our morality.... a story like this puts a pretty serious dent in my plans. A new study by Slim Fast states that one in three engaged British women would ask an overweight friend to be a bridesmaid just to make herself appear thinner. Seriously. Also found: Two in five brides said they felt insecure when standing next to a slender wedding guest. Come on! Brides-to-be should just be eternally grateful any of our friends would agree to wear matching dresses, pose for pictures, and attend our Bachelorette bonanza. I swear there are plenty of women who just appreciate their friends for that—and don't worry about their ability to make us look good (or feel insecure!) in a white dress.

Circle Lenses: A Hazardous New Beauty Trend

Lady Gaga has raised more than a few eyebrows with her outrageous music videos and quirky style, but the most recent trend she sparked is more than just risqué—it's downright risky. The New York Times recently reported that a growing number of teenagers and young women across the country have been copying Gaga's googly eyes that she flashes in the beginning of her "Bad Romance" video. While Gaga's eyes are most certainly computer-generated, the increasingly popular, Asian-imported "circle lenses" as they're called, are real. Circle lenses work by covering not just the iris, but part of the whites of the eyes as well, giving the wearer a childlike, doll-faced look. The lenses have the FDA and ophthalmologists concerned, however, because they can deprive eyes of oxygen and create serious and permanent vision problems when they don't fit properly (a major issue when you're buying them over the Internet and haven't consulted an eye professional).

While the trend has gone mainstream in countries like Japan and Singapore, it's only just emerging here, with more and more YouTube message boards popping up, helping spread the word on where to buy circle lenses. We suggest taking a safer route to getting the wide-eyed look: Dab a bit of shimmer cream in the little hollows at the inner corners of the eyes and blend with a cotton swab. We like Lorac Oil-Free Luminzier in Pearl for pale skin, or Gold for medium to dark complexions. This trick not only makes your eyes look larger, but also brighten them up in two seconds flat—and that's nothing to bat an eye at.

If you're anything like us, you're feeling a little worse for wear today (after all, Fourth of July weekend full of celebration). Exhaustion often shows up in the form of puffy eyes the next day. Here are our tips on how to look totally refreshed tomorrow—even if you're faking it.

—Chill out. Before you go to sleep tonight, throw Ricky's Rickycare Hot/Cold Gel Relaxing EyeMask Minis in the freezer. The cold jelly-like cylinders will reduce your puff in minutes (not to mention wake you up!) tomorrow morning.

Freida Pinto’s Eye-Brightening Shadow

We're all about playing up our eyes, which is why we love Freida Pinto's shimmery gunmetal shadow from last night's premiere of M. Night Shyamalan's new movie, The Last Airbender. Here's how to copy her look for yourself:

Eyes. Start by lining your eyes, inside and out, with a black kohl pencil. Smudge the edges with a Q-tip to keep the look soft and romantic. Next, brush the shadow all over your lids, making sure to apply a generous amount for a strong concentration of color. To get the same eye-enhancing effect as Pinto, use a gunmetal-colored shadow if you have brown eyes (we suggest L'Oréal Paris HIP Studio Secrets Professional Metallic Duo in Platinum). For green eyes, pick a shadow in the purple family like violet or plum (we love Black Radiance Starry Eyes Shadow Stick in Deepest Plum); and for blue eyes, go for a copper one (Benefit Creaseless Cream Shadow/Line in Busy Signal is very pretty).

Cheeks. You want to keep the focus on your eyes, so keep your cheeks subtle with a warm, peach-colored blush. Look in the mirror and apply it wherever the light naturally hits your cheekbones. (Try Bobbi Brown Nectar Blush.)

Lips. Choose a glossy lipstick that's only about a shade darker than your natural lip color. We like Yves Saint Laurent's juicy Gloss Volupté Gloss Sticks.

The long-awaited Fourth of July weekend is here, and the mid-summer break usually involves some sort of lounging on a beach or by a pool. And while that relaxing respite may be just what the doctor ordered, it can make for a sweaty, sticky, less-than-stunning situation for our hair and makeup. So here are some great beach bag-ready recommendations to help you stay chic this holiday weekend.

1. Pass the salt: Wet hair can be tricky to style. An easy, yet absolutely sexy solution is to pack a texturizing spray in your bag.
